From Strauss to Sinatra,
the Chorus brings a gay perspective to the universal themes of love, relationships
and marriage through a wide-ranging program of gorgeous and heartwarming
music. Love & Marriage is a feel-good concert that abounds with a message
of acceptance and life-affirming joy!
Program highlights include
the world premiere of “A More Perfect Union,” a suite of songs inspired
by gay marriage in Massachusetts, written by Roger Bourland with an original
text by Philip Littell. The Chorus will also sing “Anna Madrigal Remembers,”
a witty song cycle by Jake Heggie based on Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of
the City.” The performance features acclaimed mezzo-soprano D’Anna Fortunato
as the character Anna Madrigal.
Additional musical selections
include works by Richard Strauss, Aaron Copland’s “Old American Songs,”
and a riotous finale of pop songs about love and love-gone-bad made famous
by Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, and more.
