A noble hero’s love and a
devout wife’s purity of heart are no match for a trusted friend’s obsessive
jealousy. When the treacherous Iago causes Othello to question his
wife’s fidelity, suspicion and innuendo escalate to desperate rage and,
ultimately, tragedy. This complex masterpiece reveals a sensual world
in which social order, racial politics, and personal ambitions collide.
Guthrie Theater and Joe Dowling, its artistic director, are among the world’s
foremost interpreters of Shakespeare.
