DON GIOVANNI, often cited as the perfect opera, tells the story of the infamous Don Juan, a legendary 18th-Century Spanish aristocrat who heartlessly seduced and ravaged thousands of women across Europe and generally abused everyone in his path -- especially his trusted servant, Leporello.  In the first scene, Giovanni assaults Donna Anna, a young aristocratic woman, then murders her aged father, the Commander, who comes to her aid.  Later, at a peasant wedding reception, Giovanni physically beats Masettro the groom, then ravages Zerlina the bride and forces Leporello to take the blame!  Throughout the opera, Don Giovanni steadfastly rejects Donna Elvira, the one woman who truly loves him.  Eventually the spirit of the murdered Commander returns to drag Giovanni down to hell.

This traditional version of Mozart's masterpiece, and one of the greatest of all music-dramas, will be sung in the original Italian with projected English supertitles and features full orchestra and chorus. The production has completed several highly successful tours throughout France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and Germany since its debut in 1990. Teatro Lirico's DON GIOVANNI production is making its USA debut on the Fall 2003 tour.
