Russian Revel
is an evening of Russian performance designed as a benefit to celebrate
the Ballets Russes Festival that will take place in Boston in May
2009. The Russian Revel will emphasize the Russian origins of the Ballets
Russes, and the tremendous impact on the world of Russian culture since
1909.
The program will include prima ballerina Nina Ananiashvili, dancing Mikhail Fokine's Dying Swan, and Yevgeny Yevtushenko, the great Russian poet, reading selections from his poetry.
Olga Konosenko-Zariankina and Narijus Juska, stars of the Lithuanian State Ballet, will perform in the world premiere of choreographer Jurijus Smoriginas' reconstruction of a pas de deux from Fokine's Le Pavillion d'Armide (the first ballet ever performed by the Ballets Russes), staged by Andris Liepa. Renowned baritones Anton Belov and Mikhail Svetlov, and mezzo-soprano Gulnara Mitzanova, will complete the evening, singing arias from Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Borodin's Prince Igor. |
