| We are pleased to invite
Emerson College students, faculty and staff to attend a lecture titled
“Using the Arts to Bridge the Cultural Divide,” to be delivered
at the Cutler Majestic Theatre on Tuesday, Nov. 20th at 7:30 p.m. by the
noted actor-director and community activist Edward James Olmos who
is this year’s Balfour Distinguished Lecturer on diversity.
Mr.
Olmos is known to millions of viewers for his portrayal of Lt. Castillo
in the television series Miami Vice, his current role as Admiral
Adama in the hit series Battlestar Galactica and his compelling
portrayal of a real life math teacher (Jaime Escalante) at a troubled East
Los Angeles high school in the movie Stand and Deliver. He has also
had a profound impact on the Latino community in Los Angeles where he helped
found Latino film and book festivals. In 1999, he was the driving force
behind a multimedia project called “Americanos: Latino Life in the United
States.”
The Balfour Lecture series
is sponsored by our Center for Diversity in the Communication Industries
with support from the Lloyd G. Balfour Foundation, Bank of America N.A.,
Trustee. The previous Balfour lecturers were Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte
and Suzanne de Passe.
The event is open to all
members of the Emerson community. A valid ID card is required for admission.
