The Beelzebubs
The
Beelzebubs are a group of Tufts men who believe that singing should
be fun for the performers and audience alike. Founded in 1963, the
Beelzebubs
have sustained a tradition steeped in musical excellence and quality performance.
To date, the Bubs have recorded 25 studio and 3 live albums and have won
several awards for performing and recording. In 2006 the group was
awarded a CARA (Contemporary A cappella Recording Awards) for Best
Album, Best Song, Best Solo and Best Arrangement. They also provided
the opening track on the B.O.C.A. 2006 compilation with their recording
of “Let’s Get it Started.”
The Bubs have traveled to
nearly every corner of the United States and have toured Europe on several
occasions. They have performed at colleges, corporate gigs, public and
private elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, bar mitzvahs,
wedding showers, restaurants, hospitals, churches, Fenway Park, the Bank
North Garden, Disneyworld, Disneyland, Eurodisney, the United States embassies
in France and England, on Late Night with David Letterman and back home
in Goddard Chapel at the top of the hill in Medford, MA.
Brandeis VoiceMale
VoiceMale is Brandeis University's premier all-male a cappella
group. Founded in 1994,
VoiceMale annually travels coast-to-coast
performing an eclectic mix of rock, pop, jazz, R&B, and oldies.
In their twelve year history VoiceMale has been widely heralded
as one of the best colliegate groups in the greater Boston area.
They perform regularly at colleges, high schools, and a variety of private
functions.
Following the release of
"Propeller," winner of three 2004 CARA’s and opening track of BOCA
2004 (‘Let Me Entertain You’), Brandeis University’s VoiceMale
recently released its fifth studio album, "Ain’t Done Overnight."
Songs from the new album have already been selected for the B.O.C.A. 2007
and Sing! 3 compilation CDs.
The LowKeys
The
LowKeys
are one of Harvard's freshest, most innovative coed a cappella groups.
Despite the nomenclature, the sixteen undergrads who form the LowKeys
rehearse about ten hours a week in order to prepare for their many different
performances. The group can be found singing in venues such as the
Sanders Theater, Greater Boston high schools and colleges, private parties,
and even hospitals and other community service out-reach programs in the
area.
The group strives to break
new musical ground while maintaining its trademark friendly, “low-key”
attitude. They have a diverse repertoire including contemporary pop, jazz,
rock classics, and oldies. The LowKeys tour annually during
intersession, and have performed in Paris, New York City, Florida, and
Alaska. The group’s latest album “Unlocked” was recently selected
to be a part of the B.O.C.A. 2007 and Voices Only compilation CDs.
The Logarhythms
The
Logarhythms
are MIT's premiere all-male a cappella group. Since 1949 the Logs have
entertained audiences around the world with their unique mix of harmony
and humor. The Logarhythms are one of the nation’s
oldest a cappella performance groups. The group has earned songs
on the Best of College A Cappella compilation albums from 2003, 2004, and
2005, and their most recent album, "Soundproof," received unprecedented
high scores for a collegiate a cappella album in its review by the Recorded
A Cappella Review Board (RARB).
The Logarhythms
deliver high-energy performances packed with tight musical harmony and
lots of laughs. Their repertoire includes modern pop, hip hop, classic
rock and barbershop tunes, and also features hilarious comic skits.
Meet the Hosts
Host Julia Avanti
Julia
is thrilled to be a part of All A Cappella’s first concert
at the Cutler Majestic Theatre. She has been working as All
A Cappella’s Coordinator and on air host since December 2005.
Each week Julia spends countless hours reviewing incoming a cappella CDs,
and seeking out new talent. In her time on air Julia has developed
a knowledge base that has become a resource for those in the greater Boston
area. She’s hosted private and corporate concerts throughout the
region in addition to working closely with several area a cappella groups.
Hear Julia on air for All A Cappella every Saturday from
2 to 5 pm.
Host Emma Evans
Emma
Evans was welcomed in to the All A Cappella family this September.
Her quick wit and passion for a cappella has in a short few months made
Emma an indispensable part of the show. She looks forward to becoming
a more integral part of the a cappella community in the coming year.
On air Emma’s interviewed many notables in the Boston music scene including
the House Jacks, Suffolk Ramifications and Vote for Pedro. Tune in
to All A Cappella every Sunday to hear Emma hosting on WERS.
Meet the Judges
Judge Sara Ventre
Sara
Ventre is currently the Promotions Coordinator for Clear Channel Broadcasting
in Los Angeles. When not producing radio broadcasts for the CMA Awards,
CMA Music Festival, and Radio Music Awards, she creates promotions for
syndicated programming (Ryan Seacrest, Delilah, Jim Rome, and more). While
a student at Emerson, she was the host of All A Cappella
from 2000-2004, produced the 2002 and 2004 East Coast A Cappella Summits
and three "College Bash" concerts with WERS, judged numerous ICCA and Harmony
Sweepstakes competitions, and was the National Rep Manager for Five O'
Clock Shadow. Let her be the first to tell you, West Coast a cappella has
NOTHING on East Coast. Good luck to all competitors.
John Clark
John
Clark's career with a cappella began back in 1993 when he joined the Tufts
University Amalgamates. After being in the group just one semester, he
became their music director; a position he held for the next two and a
half years until he graduated in 1996.
After graduation, he started
a short-lived semi-professional a cappella group called Seven Seconds which
won the Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes competition in 1997. Shortly
after, John began an internship at Blue Jay Recording Studio in Carlisle,
MA, where he spent 18 months being trained as a sound engineer. During
that time, John recorded his first a cappella CD with Tufts Shir Appeal
which helped earn them a spot on the BOCA 2000 compilation. His next effort
was "Juice," which won three CARA awards, including best mixed collegiate
album, for his former group the Amalgamates.
At that point, John's friend
Samrat Chakrabarti invited him to come and record with the Hyannis Sound.
Since that time, John has continued to enjoy success year after year with
his work with various collegiate and professional projects including Naturally7,
the Hyannnis Sound, Brandeis VoiceMale, Binghamton Crosbys, MIT Logarhythms,
the BU Dear Abbeys, and many others.
Judge Eric Fosbury
Eric
Fosbury has been a part of the a cappella scene since the fall of 1996.
He began singing with the Buffalo Chips at the University at Buffalo, where
he won a pair of best arrangement awards in ICCA competitions. His arrangement
of Wild Wild West was also awarded runner-up for all-male college groups
in 2002.
Eric also performed with
Hyannis Sound for five summers, the last of which came in 2004. Eric has
contributed such solos as Bohemian Rhapsody (from Cape Standard Time) and
Boys of Summer (from Route 6), arranging them in the process.
Today, Eric can be found
as a tenor in the professional a cappella group named Firedrill! He also
remains a contributor of arrangements and direction to various a cappella
groups, of all ages, primarily in the northeast.
