Verdi's RIGOLETTO is an intriguing study of the contrasts between good
and evil. Careless flirtations by the womanizing Duke of Mantua and
the actions of his vengeful court jester RIGOLETTO play out against a backdrop
of seduction, betrayal, curses and vendettas, ending in the tragic death
of Rigoletto's innocent daughter Gilda at the hands of a paid assassin.
The opera contains the famous arias "Caro nome," "La donna e mobile," "Questo
quella," and the well known "Rigoletto Quartet."
A traditional version of
Verdi's opera with full orchestra and chorus and international soloists,
in Italian with English supertitles. This is its third US tour, brought
back by outstanding critical acclaim. TLD's production of Verdi's
RIGOLETTO has enjoyed several critically acclaimed tours throughout Western
Europe since its debut in 1992 including performances at the 1998 and 1999
Summer Festival San Giovanni Valdarno in the Tuscany region of Italy where
it was greeted with great enthusiasm by the public and outstanding critical
acclaim from the Italian press! The company's NEW production made
its American debut on the Winter 2002 USA tour to outstanding critical
acclaim, returned to the USA for the Winter 2003 tour by popular demand,
and tours the USA for the THIRD straight Winter in 2004.
